Far Cry Primal Complete Skill Point Guide

Curious what the skills are like in Far Cry Primal? Well, there is a complete skill walkthrough guide available to give gamers an idea of what to expect from the skills and abilities in Ubisoft’s new first-person, stone-age, survival game.

The guide is provided by YouTuber PS4Trophies. The video is only four and a half minutes but if you were looking for a specific breakdown of the skills and their categories. The video arrives ahead of Far Cry Primal’s launch on February 23rd for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Each set of skills are broken down into various categories, including Survival Skills, Gathering Skills, Beast Master Skills, Hunting Skills, Fighting Skills and Crafting Skills. There’s also a special category that requires specific conditions to be met in order to unlock the abilities. Those are covered as well.

  • Survival Skills

Primitive Takedowns: Approach an enemy from behind or by cover and press R3 for a quick and selent kill. Use the left analog to drag the body out of sight.

Primitive Heal I, II: Hold Triangle (or ‘Y’) to manually heal one health bar. For the second level of Primitive heal it adds three points to the total health. More healing options are in the Food menu. Primitive Heal II requires 3 skill points.

Health Regenration: Partially drained health bars will automatically regenerate much faster. Requires 3 skill opints.

Extra Health I, II, IV: Gain +1 health bars. You can have up to six in total. Extra Health IV requires 6 skill points.

Sprint Forever: Sprint forever without slowing down after running with L3. Sprint speed is permanently increased. Requires 3 skill points.

Crouch Sprint: Move faster when crouched with the Circle or ‘B’ button. Requires 2 skill points.

Sprint Heal: Hold down Triangle (or ‘Y’) to heal yourself while sprinting with L3. Uses the default recipe from the food menu on the left D-pad.

Quiet Sprint: Greatly reduce the noise you make when walking and sprinting. Requires 4 skill points.

Primitive Agility: Press L3 to sprint, then Circle (or ‘B’) to slide. Hold R1 to keep any throwable weapon in your hand, and release to throw it.

Hunter Vision: Hold R3 for enhanced vision. View enemies, animals, resources, and blood trails. Lasts for eight seconds. Extends to your owl companion.

Primitive Stealth: Press the down D-pad to throw a rock (on land) and distract enemies. Hold R3 to move a dead body out of sight.

Primitive Fire: Use hardwood to light campfires. Set your weapons on fire from the wepano wheel by highlighting them and pressing Square (or ‘X’).

  • Gathering Skills

Reveal Terrain I, II: Reveal +200 feet of terrain around you in the map menu. Level II reveals +400 feet. Uncovers more activities and missions.

Show Resources: Wood, stone, and other village resources are displayed on your minimap. Requires 1 skill point.

Find Rare Resources I, II: Improved chance of finding more rare wood, stone and reeds when gathering. Requires 2 skill points.

Show Plants: Plants are displayed on your minimap.

Find Rare Plants: Improved chance of finding more rare plant parts when gathering. Requires 2 skill points.

Search Takedown: Automatically search an enemy while performing a takedown. Requires 2 skill points.

Skinning I, II: Find +2 meat when skinning most animals. Level II lets you find +2 animal fat and +2 animal hide.

Beast Master Skills

Beast Reviving: Reviving your tamed beasts requires fewer red leaves. Requires 2 skill points.

Tame Canines: Can tame dholes, rare dholes, wolves, white wolves, and rare stripe wolves. Use bait to tame them.

Tame Wildcats: Can tame leopards, jaguars, rare black jaguars, cave lions, and rare black lions. Use bait to tame them.

Tame Apex Predators: Tame sabretooth tigers, and brown bears. Use bait to tame them.

Tame Cunning Beasts: Tame cave bears and badgers. Use bait to tame them.

Owl: Tagging Range: The owl’s tagging range for enemies is greatly increased. If the Tag Animals skill is learned the tagging range for animals is also increased. Requires 3 skill points.

Owl: Weapon Drop: The owl can drop your sting bombs, berserk bombs, and fire bombs. Requires 3 skill points.

Owl: Hunter Vision: Hold R3 to use hunter vision with your owl. Other hunter vision skills extend to your owl.

Owl Companion: Press up on the D-pad to summon your owl. Scout ahead to tag enemies.

Owl: Attack I, II: Your owl can perform a dive attack with R2 (or right trigger). Kills most regular enemies. Can free caged animals. 80 second cooldown time. The level II attack can kill powerful elite enemies and requires 3 skill points.

Owl: Cooldown I, II: The owl attack cooldown is reduced from 80 seconds to 65 seconds. Cooldown II reduces the CD from 65 seconds down to 40 seconds. Requires 3 skill points.

Far Cry Primal Skills

  • Hunting Skills

Hunter Vision: Sacks: Resource sacks can now be seen with hunter vision. This skill extends to your owl companion.

Craft Arrows I, II, III: Craft 2 arrows instead of 1 from the weapon wheel. Resource cost does not change. Level II lets you craft 4 arrows instead of 2 and requires 2 skill points. Level III lets you craft up to 8 arrows instead of 4 and resource cost does not change. Level III requires 4 skill points.

Animal Wounds: Increase the amount of damage your weapons inflict on animals. Requires 6 skill points.

Tag Animals: Hold L2 (left trigger) while aiming to tag animals. Works with clubs, bows and the spear. Tags are permanent. Your owl companion can also tag animals. Requires 4 skill points.

Reduced Fall Damage: Receive less damage when falling from a great height.

Tag Enemies: Hold L2 (or left trigger) while aiming to tag enemies. Works with clubs, bows, and the spear. Tags are permanent. Your owl companion can also tag enemies.

Hunter Vision: Plants: Plants can now be seen with hunter vision. This skill extends to your owl companion.

Bow Sprint Reload: Reload any bow with a fresh arrow while sprinting. Press L3 to sprint. Requires 2 skill points.

Bow Handling: When aiming the bow with L2 (or the left trigger) the sway is greatly reduced.

  • Fighting Skills

Club & Spear Handling: Aiming sway is greatly reduced for clubs and spears. Requires 1 skill point.

Shard Takedown: press R3 to begin a takedown on an enemy. Then press R2 (right trigger) to throw a shard at a second enemy. You must have shards to use this skill.

Heavy Takedown: Press R3 to takedown the large and powerful chieftain enemies.

Chain Takedown: Kill multiple enemies in sequence. Start with a standard takedown R3. Use the laft analog as prompted to chain it between nearby enemies. Requires 4 skill points.

Beast Rider: Ride more beasts after taming them, including bear, sabretooth tiger, and Bloodfang sabertooth. Mammoth rider controls apply here. Requires 2 skill points.

Mammoth Rider: Approach a young mammoth and hold Square (or ‘X’) to ride it. Sprint with L3. Attack enemies with R3. Use your weapons as normal.

Death From Above: Jump or fall onto an enemy below you for a quick and brutal kill.

Weapon Agility: Switching between weapons with Triangle (or ‘Y’) is much faster, even when sprinting. Aiming your weapon with L2 (left trigger) is also much faster. Requires 1 skill point.

Use Weapons While Moving Bodies: While moving a dead body, you can aim and throw any club or spear. Requires 1 skill point.

Extra Health III: Gain +1 health bars. You can have up to 6 in total. Requires 4 skill points.

  • Crafting Skills

Double Clubs: Craft 2 clubs instead of 1 from the weapon wheel. Applies to all club types. Resource cost does not change. Requires 2 skill points.

Vicious Traps: Traps deal more damage when triggered by enemies or animals. Requires 1 skill point.

Precision Sling: Sling head shots will pierce through enemy headgear. Requires 2 skill points.

Double Spears: Craft 2 spears instead of 1 from the weapon wheel. Resource cost does not change. Requires 3 skill points.

Double Shards: Craft 2 shards instead of 1 from the weapon wheel. Applies to all shard types. Resource cost does not change. Requires 3 skill points.

Double Traps: Craft 2 traps instead of 1 from the weapon wheel. Resource cost does not change. Requires 2 skill points.

Double Sting Bombs: Craft 2 sting instead of 1 from the weapon wheel. Resource cost does not change. Requires 2 skill points.

Food Boosts I, II, III: Effects of food recipes are increased from 60 seconds to 90 seconds. Level II effects of food recipes increased from 90 seconds to 120 seconds. Level III increases recipes from 120 seconds to 150 seconds.

Double Bait: Craft 2 bait instead of 1 from the weapon wheel. Resource cost does not change.

  • Special Skills

Melee Resistance I: Receive less damage from animal attacks and enemy melee hits. Also reduces the chance of being knocked down by enemies. Requires 2 skill points and requires bringin Dah to your village to unlock the skill.

Double Berserk Bomb: Craft 2 berserk bombs instead of 1 from the weapon wheel. Resource cost does not change. Requires 2 skill points and you must build Dah’s hut.

Melee Resistance II: Receive even less damage from animal attacks and enemy melee hits. Requires 4 skill points and to build Dah’s hut.

Primitive Heal III: Heals +1 health bars when manually healing, up to 3 total. More healing options are in the food menu with the left D-pad. Requires 4 skill points and to build Dah’s hut.

Fire Resistance: Reduce the amount of damage you take from fire. Requires 2 skill points and to bring Roshani to your village to unlock the skill.

Double Fire Bombs: Craft 2 fire bombs instead of 1 from the weapon wheel. Resource cost does not change. Requires 3 skill points and to build Roshani’s hut.

Fire Takedown: Press R3 to begin a takedown on an enemy. Press R1 to smash a fire bomb onto the enemy. You must have fire bombs to use this skill. Requires 3 skill points and to build Roshani’s hut.

Fire Master I: You no longer need animal fat to set your weapons on fire. Requires 6 skill points and to build Roshani’s hut.

Fire Master II: If you set a weapon on fire all subsequent weapons you equip will be automatically set on fire. Press Square (or ‘X’) in the weapon wheel to extinguish the fire at any time. Requires 4 skill points and to build Roshani’s hut.
