Star Trek Online Coming To Xbox One And PS4 This Fall
(Last Updated On: May 12, 2016)

The free-to-play MMO from Cyrptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment will be teleporting from PC to home consoles this fall. Perfect World recently announced that Star Trek Online would be coming to the Xbox One and PS4, complete with all of the previously released expansion packs and updates.

Over on the PlayStation Blog executive producer on Star Trek Online, Steve Ricossa, made it known that the game wasn’t just going to be appearing on home consoles as-is. The team at Cryptic have been ironing out some of the game’s mechanics to specifically tailor the gameplay experience for home consoles, and more important, the limited button mechanics of a controller.

Ricossa wrote on the blog…

“we decided the entire UI needed not only a complete graphical overhaul but to have its entire backend rewritten. The goal here was to create a UI that was incredibly streamlined on the backend to ensure the best game performance possible, while also creating a brand new experience built for DualShock 4”

They didn’t just revamp the controls so console kiddies could manage menus and UI systems that require an entire keyboard to navigate, they also upped the graphics and visual effects, adding in probe lighting effects, HDR and dynamic shadows to help give the game a standout look as it makes its debut on the Xbox One and PS4.

You can get a glimpse of the new graphical effects in action with the console announcement trailer below.

A lot of fans are excited to finally be able to play the game on their console of choice. The six-year-old MMO has enjoyed a fair bit of success on PC, so Perfect World figured they could try their hand on Microsoft and Sony’s systems.

The game will launch with expansion packs that lead all the way up to Delta Rising, which includes missions centered around Star Trek: Voyager. They even managed to cast Jeri Ryan, famous for her role as Seven of Nine, to reprise her role as the sexy ex-Borg. The Delta Rising expansion will be part of many others, giving console gamers a total of 130 missions to explore.
