Yooka-Laylee, Platform Game Gains New Screenshots And Details Toybox Mode

Playtonic Games has spilled some new information pertaining to its 3D platfomer Yooka-Laylee. For those that remember games like Banjo Kazooie and Mario 64, this new project is a nice throwback to old school 1990’s 3D platform games. Playtonic Games upcoming game is set to come out this year during October for PC and PS4.

According to playtonicgames.com the main bad guy has been revealed, who goes by the name “Capital B.” We also learn that a nice July release window will open up for the Toybox mode, which is basically a sandbox demo for Kickstarter backers. This is also backed by a handful of screenshots showing the antagonist, Yooka, Laylee and other features. You can view the images below.

The devs are noted to be starting press promotional tours with coverage of the bright and colorful platformer being featured in the May 26th issue of Edge magazine. This will be followed by other publication news, while having the biggest exposure during this year’s E3 in June.

But enough on the game’s screenshots and where it will be heading. According to the website, those who like old-school collectibles that reward players with extra lives, special abilities or just to collect, a lot of collectibles will be found in Yooka-Laylee. This is a nice reference to games like Banjo Kazooie, or other Rare games that had players scavenging around for special loot.

Furthermore, the hundreds of collectibles scattered all over the place can double as coins to purchase unlockables from a serpent vendor Trowzer. This adds to the flexibility to one’s playthrough, which provides extra places to explore with abilities that are able to reach places one couldn’t before.

In addition to gameplay, players will have to venture through Capital B’s corporate lair, while traversing locations in the air, ground and even in the sea. The duo, or main characters, are also in search of Pagies and their power to gain access to magical Grand Tomes held away in the Hivory Towers, which will be scattered across different stages.

Lastly, a nice Toybox tour will be available for Kickstarter backers, which will go live sometime during July. Yooka-Laylee will be available for PC and PS4 sometime this year around October. For more info you can hit up playtonicgames.com.
