Just Cause 3 Mech Land Assault Launch Trailer Features Metal Gear-Inspired Action

The inspiration behind Just Cause 3’s latest DLC is fairly obvious. Avalanche Studios appears to have borrowed heavily from Metal Gear Solid when it comes to the mechs in their upcoming Mech Land Assault expansion pack.

They released the launch trailer for the new DLC and detailed some of what you can expect from it. You can check out the trailer below, courtesy of GamesRadar.

New to this particular DLC pack is the armored mech units, enabling players to commandeer two different types of mechs.

As showcased in the trailer above, it’s possible to grapple in close, toss out the pilot and take command of the giant, metal war machine.

The Games Radar article notes that the DLC campaign takes place on a completely separate island called Lacrima. It’s designed so that players can make specific use of some of the unique weaponry packed onto the robots, such as the electric arc cannon and the gravity gun. You briefly get to see the gravity gun in action with the mech pulling down an entire tower.

The gravity weapon design looks awfully similar to the design used for the Metal Gear units in Kojima’s popular espionage sci-fi series.

Additionally, the promo image for Mech Land Assault seems to be ripped right out off the poster for the 1989 movie Gunhed. Here’s a refresher in case you don’t remember.

I can’t be the only one to see the similarities there? Maybe it’s just a happy coincide that the mechs look so similar.

Anyway, you can look for the newest Just Cause 3 DLC to launch on June 10th for $11.99. Alternatively you can get it for free if you are signed up for the season pass. This will be the final bit of Just Cause 3 DLC for a while, but I’m sure the modding community will come up with some interesting content.
