If you own an Xbox One or PS4 you will be able to participate in the planned open betas for EA and Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2. Those who enjoy gaming on PC will not be able to take part in these beta tests, which start August 19th and will end on August 21st. Titanfall 2 is set to come out October 28th for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
If you haven’t looked over the notes that the devs sent out over on the official “A Word About PC And The Titanfall 2 Open Multiplayer Tech Test” page, then you will be able to do so below:
“Two big issues from a development standpoint: hardware variety & “min spec” optimization. We’re still making a lot of tweaks and changes to the renderer, the game, and effects so we haven’t run the game through the hardware compatibility lab yet to detect and handle a large variety of hardware – video cards, CPUs etc. Quite frankly, we aren’t ready to deal with that yet”.
“Also, because the single player story has some wonderful secrets that we really want to preserve for launch, we also have to worry about leaks.”
Yup, so that’s why the two open beta weekends aren’t surfacing to PC players. However, if you own either of the two said consoles, you will be able to participate in today’s test until the 21st. Right now, it can be downloaded as a 12.56GB file for PS4, and 17GB file for Xbox One (numbers may change depending on updates/hotfixes).
As of course, folks will be able to jump into a tutorial level to train against bots so that they can “get gud” at the game.
I should also note what the two open beta weekends hold on release, in case this is your first time coming across this information.
Today’s open beta or tech test contains a “five vs five” Bounty Hunt mode that revolves around getting kills and receiving points to cash in at a bank, but before death. the “eight vs eight” Pilots vs. Pilot mode sees two teams trying to kill each other for domination in classic team death-match.
As for the maps that will be available… there will be two: Boomtown and Homestead. If you are looking for a heads-up on the second open beta or tech test, it will start August 26th and will end on August 28th. Additionally, it will contain a “six vs six” mode called Amped Hardpoint, and one map entitled Forward Base Kodai. The former sees players capturing points, but twice for more score, while the latter is a stage that is set in an IMC base taken over by the Militia forces.
