Akiba’s Beat Trailer Covers Characters, Music Types And Combat

A new promo trailer for Akiba’s Beat was released by XSeed Games ahead of its upcoming launch for the PS4 and PS Vita.

The video clocks it at over three minutes, giving gamers a rundown of the main characters in the game, as well as some of the character personalities for the people who will join the player’s team.

The trailer mixes in the new combat scenarios with anime sequences. The actual gameplay itself is very different from the previous Akiba’s Trip. For one thing, the characters and their fighting style is attached to various musical themes, forcing players to have to match up their technique with the in-game music. You can check out the video below to get a better look at Acquire’s upcoming RPG for the PS Vita and the PS4.

While Akiba’s Trip made waves with its strip-combat mechanics, it appears Acquire decided to go in a completely different direction with Akiba’s Beat, tackling the music-rhythm genre and combining it with JRPG storytelling and combo-centric combat.

It’s a risky move because while the music-rhythm mechanics will likely appeal to a much broader audience, the whole stripping thing is what helped put the Akiba series right there in the midst of discussions between anime fans, JRPG fanatics and Otaku enthusiasts.

I haven’t heard or seen quite as much chatter surrounding Akiba’s Beat outside of the traditional fandom circles, so XSeed Games and Acquire will likely need to rely on strong word of mouth and solid sales within the enthusiast community to bolster the sales. It’s not a bad tactic if the game can stand up on the merit of its design.

We’ll likely find out just how well it’ll do Stateside when it launches in early 2017 for the PS4 and PS Vita. If you haven’t been keeping track you can check out some more of the character profile trailers with the playlist below.

The new party-based, action battle system seems like it could be the real standout star of the game when it finally launches.
