Horizon Zero Dawn 4K Gameplay Trailer Arrives For PS4 Pro

Guerrilla Games released a new trailer for their open-world adventure game, Horizon: Zero Dawn. The trailer has arrived in lieu of the announcement of the PS4 Pro where we get to see the game running in 4K. However, according to Destructoid, Guerrilla Games revealed that the game will not be running in native 4K on the PS4 Pro.

The trailer, regardless of the claims, looks great. The hair physics are actually done quite well, much more-so than Rise of the Tomb Raider. The subtle physics from the trees and the foliage really add to the atmosphere, especially the way everything looks alive and flowing. The dynamics of the environment autonomously breathing alongside the player-character makes the world feel a lot more alive than the typical open-world title. It’s amazing how far grass physics and birds flying can change the scope of appeal for a game.

You can check out the trailer below from the PlayStation Meeting that took place earlier in the week in New York.

I’m almost inclined to pull out buzzwords like “breathtaking” and “awe-inspiring”. I’ll settle for “looking good”.

My one big worry about this game, though, is gameplay depth. We only see bits and pieces of the mechanics, traversal and some of the environments with the robosaurs, but I do worry about the game getting jammed in a white box of limited mechanics. Hopefully Guerrilla Games proves me wrong and there’s much more to it than meets the eye.

As for the trailer itself… it’s a throwaway. The only thing we learn about Horizon from that three and a half minute clip is that you need to traverse up the satellite-saurus to use its head to get a layout and reading of the map. That’s actually a pretty cool way to get your bearings down. I like it. It also reminds me of climbing up towers and jumping into hay from Assassin’s Creed games.

Anyway, you can look for Horizon: Zero Dawn to launch on the PS4 and PS4 Pro starting February 28th, 2017.
