Hello Neighbor Announced, Features Stealth And Horror In The Suburbs

A crazy neighbor trying to break into your abode? That’s the theme behind the upcoming horror-stealth game called Hello Neighbor. The game was announced with a new trailer featuring a look at the upcoming title’s in-game play.

Gamespot recently posted up the two and a half minute trailer for the game, which you can view below.

Dynamic Pixel Productions’ upcoming title is being published by tinyBuild. The trailer starts with the creepy neighbor in a room with a hammer. We then get two minutes of the player attempting to lure the neighbor away from his house so you can get inside. From there the objective is to search the house for an object or someone or something. We’re not really made privy as to what it is the player-character is doing in the creepy neighbor’s house.

The first thing that came to mind was The Burbs with Tom Hanks.

The concept is pretty bizarre but that just adds to the appeal. The normalization of the environment and levels fused with working physics – such as being able to throw objects through windows to make for quick escapes or move objects in front of doors to block pathways – makes the game feel a lot more grounded, despite the cartoony graphics.

We don’t get to see a whole lot on display and the motives behind the characters aren’t made clear, but as the player attempts to make their way back into the house the creepy neighbor sneaks up from behind and captures him, locking him in a box and then shutting him away somewhere.

Feedback for the game is nothing but positive. A lot of people love that Dynamic Pixel is taking a completely different route with the stealth-horror genre and doing something completely different. This is what gaming is all about.

I love that there are still some developers willing to take risks without having to spend $100 million to do so, or justifying why they can’t take risks because they’re spending $100 million.

We’ll try to keep you posted on further updates and news regarding Hello Neighbor.
