Robo Recall, UE4 Oculus Touch Shooter Set To Arrive Q1, 2017

Epic Games is continuing to put some time and effort into the whole VR gimmick that has taken gaming by storm this year. Their game, Robo Recall, will be slated for release in the first quarter of 2017 as an exclusive for the Oculus Rift and the motion-devices known as the Oculus Touch.

Epic Games recently sent out a trailer highlighting the gameplay for the VR shooter, which is doused in comedic one-liners and a ridiculously action-packed premise that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Essentially it reminds me of Hardcore Henry meets iRobot.

The tongue-in-cheek shooter has a really clever trailer that promotes the robots as a state of the art consumer device while intermixing the commercial-style presentation with unrequited violence toward the robots. Check it out below courtesy of GameNewsOfficial.

The game itself doesn’t seem to do much to showcase the true capabilities of the Unreal Engine 4, but the commercial presentation of the robot set against the white background actually looks really good. It reminds me a lot of the Unity 5 tech demo featuring those robots on that prison world.

The objective of Robot Recall is to destroy all the rogue robots. It’s another shooting gallery game, similar to 4A Games’ upcoming rail-shooter, ARKTIKA.1.

While graphically the game isn’t really doing much of anything special, one of the highlights of the game is that the physics are simply off the chain.

You really get a proper sense of the movements and destruction seeing the Unreal Engine 4 flex its muscle without the CPU limitations of the PS4 or Xbox One standing in the way. Particles come in no short supply and litter the play area like hot mic remarks in a private Donald Trump conversation, while physics-based ragdoll reactions are constantly being put on display thanks to a wide variety of weapons being employed, just like Bill Clinton employing all of Alain Danielou’s kamasutra tactics with the interns while Hillary goes in for regular replacements of her soul.

The continued use of disembodied hands has automatically put me off of Robo Recall, but I really like the premise, I love the designs of the robots and the mix of humor and arcade-style violence is a nice touch. It’s a game with a bit of heart.

You can look for Robo Recall to land on the Oculus Touch starting in the first quarter of 2017. For more info, feel free to visit the official website.
