Subsistence, Single-Player Survival Game Enters Early Access

A lot of wilderness survival games made these days are geared around MMO-style structures; PvP fests where players fight for control of small territories on a server. Well, ColdGames has done away with that concept for Subsistence, a new single-player survival game where players will be battling against nature, animals… and some unpredictable AI.

The new game has recently entered into Early Access, featuring basics like chopping down trees, collecting resources, building fires, building structures and even making yourself a nice, pretty little home.

The game features a variety of weapons, including hatchets, pistols and shotguns, along with the ability to cut up animals, make some meat and stay healthy. There’s a five and a half minute long video that you can check out below to give you an idea of what to expect from the game.

Apart from what you see in the video, there is an in-depth crafting mechanic, dynamic base building with modular parts, farming, cooking mechanics, a day and night cycle, temperature changes that will affect your survival rate, hunger and thirst mechanics, a clothing system, electrical power, even AI hunters that will also be out and about attempting to scavenge and build their own bases.

I think there’s a lot of potential with the game even with the limited graphics features on display. Obviously, the shotgun and pistol hip-firing animations need to be upgraded and improved, but there’s potential.

Subsistance

There is no specific ETA on how long Subsistence will be in Early Access, but it’s made known that the game will stay in Early Access until ColdGames is confident in the amount of gameplay polish and content depth provided to the general public.

There will be multiplayer in the final version of the game, but it isn’t turned on at the moment. You can learn more about Subsistence or pick up a digital copy while it’s Early Access for $13.99 from the Steam store. Of course, if you are wary about unfinished games being sold, it might be best to exercise caution and observe from afar.
