The Wild Eight Video Features Updates And Upgrades Ahead Of Early Access Launch

Developer Eight Points and publisher HypeTrain Digital released a new video for their upcoming isometric survival game set in the wilderness of an Alaskan forest. The video is a bit more on the tech side, focusing on the improvements and updates the developers have made on the title following a successful Kickstarter campaign, as well as giving gamers a look at what they can expect when The Wild Eight heads into Early Access sometime this fall.

The video is only a minute and 31 seconds long, but it’s chock full of useful tidbits of ground gained by the developers when it comes to things like the improvement of animal AI, pathfinding and how they react to players, along with their animations and how they interact with the world around them. For example, given the narrow vision of deers, players are encouraged to approach them from behind in order to kill them for resources.

They also showcase how bears will react to players in ways similar to real life; observant at first but stubborn and willing to attack if they feel threatened in anyway. You can check out the video below to get an idea of what the developers have in store for The Wild Eight.

Ahead of the Early Access release, they’ve included radio tower tiles, abandoned base tiles, along with warehouse tiles and a snow-covered parking lot.

Other, more immersive effects like fading fire that whittles down during the sub-zero temperatures of the night have been included, along with the ability to break stones. Although, I have no idea what breaking stones will do for you in the game.

The cold tonal atmosphere and the minimalist design work well to convey a feeling of desperation and struggle. The Wild Eight has a bit of Joe Carnahan’s The Grey lodged into the bones of its presentation, and that alone makes it look interesting.

With an original soundtrack in tow and a community of gamers already strongly anticipating the title, there’s hope that The Wild Eight could end up being another breakout hit funded by the Kickstarter denizens.

You can learn more about the game by visiting the Steam store page ahead of its Early Access release.
