THQ Nordic Acquires NovaLogic Military Sim Properties

Remember back in the day there used to be a number of military sims on PC competing and vying for your attention? There was the Jane’s series of games during the mid to late 1990s, along with the Sierra line of titles, the Domark sims and the NovaLogic games. Well, THQ Nordic has acquired the NovaLogic series of military sims, expanding their library to include some classic games.

Blues picked up the news recently from a THQ announcement where they stated that they have acquired the NovaLogic trademark and all of the company’s shooters, flight simulators and military games.

According to Reinhard Pollice, the business and product development director at THQ Nordic, they’re already looking to expand on the portfolio of NovaLogic titles and are seeking developers to work on some new entries in these old franchises, saying…

“We are extremely satisfied with the new additions to our portfolio, and also very thrilled about how to continue some of said franchises, we are open for talks in this regard if any developer approaches us with a concept for a potential sequel to any IP.”

So what are some of the games that NovaLogic had under their belt? Some impressive games, no doubt. Check out the list below.

  • Delta Force Series
  • Comanche Series
  • Joint Operations Series
  • Armored Fist Series
  • Tachyon: The Fringe
  • F-22 – Series
  • F-16 Series
  • NovaLogic Trademark

I remember the Comanche series… back in the day Comanche 3 was the top game to beat when it came to graphics and realism. It really set the bar high in 1997. Keep in mind this was when a lot of games were barely transitioning to 16-bit colors and realistic physics was a foreign concept. This was also the year when Tomb Raider 2 came out and that game was considered to have great graphics. You can check out a video below from Christian Klein showcasing one of the many missions in the game.

I’m curious to see what other franchises interested developers will pick up from THQ Nordic now that they have the NovaLogic license? Delta Force might not be a bad one, even though the original games were awful. Some new entries in the Armored Fist franchise might also be welcomed with open arms.

Given the dearth of sim games these days outside of a few select brands such as Train Simulator and Farming Simulator, we don’t really have quality military sims anymore besides Arma. It would be nice to see some decent, mid-budget games made with the NovaLogic license and maybe rekindle some of the fire that burned so bright during the 1990s.. back during the golden age of gaming.
