Hello Games finally broke their silence and announced that a new update for No Man’s Sky is coming soon. The update won’t be huge but they’re dubbing it “The Foundation”. This will lay the groundwork for a new set of updates they plan on rolling out for the game in the near future, one of which will include the ability to finally build your own base.
Over on the official No Man’s Sky website, there’s a short and direct blog post from Hello Games, announcing that the Foundation update is on its way. They temper expectations by saying it’s not the biggest update but that it is the start of “something”…
“In the nine weeks since [release] our small team has been hard at work on development, testing and certification for the Foundation Update. It won’t be our biggest update, but it is the start of something.”
The Foundation sounds like the setup for hooking in bigger and better things into the game. Multiplayer and base building would go a looooong way in restoring some faith and interest in the game.
The post is neither apologetic nor vaunting. It gets right to the point and acknowledges that a large portion of the discussion centered around the universal space exploration game has been “dramatic” and “intense”. I would say the discussion is closer to being a community conflagration fueled by disappointment and crushed expectations.
Nevertheless, the game made waves in the media, and there’s at least some measure of hype on which to build a solid platform to restore the prestige of what some might consider to be a tarnished image of their development studio.
Hello Games is currently going through the process of getting the Foundation update certified so that they can begin work on the next step in bringing up No Man’s Sky to the standard levels of playability on which the hype was built.
You’ll have to keep an eye on the official website for more info regarding the game being updated.
