Silence Demo Available Ahead Of Release On PS4, Xbox One, PC

Daedalic Entertainment announced recently that a demo for their upcoming game Silence has just been made available for PC gamers over on Steam. The 3D point-and-click adventure game is set for release on November 15th and ahead of the release you can get your hands on the demo by downloading it right now.

Accompanying the release of the demo is the official launch trailer for the game Silence. It covers the general plot of the game, which sees Noah and his little sister attempting to get home after getting trapped between the crossroads of their world and the secret world of Silence. You can check out the trailer below.

I get some minor vibes of Pan’s Labyrinth from the world of Silence, but it also seems to be a throwback to traditional, grand fantasy adventures. I kind of miss those sort of games, so it’s nice to see Daedalic going old-school by giving gamers some thrills and challenges from the perspective of youngsters in a foreign world, a little like The City of Ember.

One thing worth talking about specifically is Silence’s visual art direction. Wow-oh-wow does this game look stunning.

The backgrounds look like digital fantasy art, but the reality is that it’s actually in 3D. When the perspective starts to rotate in the one scene where we see the dilapidated statues, it’s almost as if we’re stepping directly into the depth of a painting. It’s marvelously fantastic.

It looks as if instead of going with real-time shaders to depict light casting and shadow on the background objects, they simply have the lighting baked into the normals with the textures. According to the Steam page, they’re using 2D backgrounds, but based on the trailer some of the background objects are in 3D. So maybe they hand-painted some objects and then layered them onto vector maps? It’s a cool visual trick nonetheless.

Silence features three playable characters and you can get a small taste of the action with the downloadable PC demo available on the Steam store page.

You can look to get your hands on Silence when the game launches on November 15th for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
