Space Jammers, 4-Player Roguelike SHMUP Heads To Kickstarter

A new four-player cooperative shoot-’em-up from indie developers Spreadshot Studios has launched its Kickstarter campaign, seeking $9,000 to help finish off development as it preps for an Early Access launch on Steam starting next month on December 2nd.

The name of the game is Space Jammers and it’s being described as a roguelike cooperative party shooter.

The game could best be described as Enter The Gungeon meets Borderlands meets Asteroids. Not only will you traverse dangerous randomly generated levels with boss fights and a wide variety of enemies to defeat and weapons to collect, but you’ll also have to keep a close eye on your teammates, reviving them as necessary and working together to take down the randomly generated bosses. Yes, the game features randomly generated bosses.

You can get an idea of what the gameplay is like with a gameplay trailer below, featuring close to three minutes of in-game play.

Space Jammers is kind of cool insofar that it mixes in space shooting from typical bullet-hell SHMUPs, but then it also gives you the boots-on-the-ground gameplay that you would typically find in an indie roguelike.

According to the Steam Early Access page, the local multiplayer has been implemented and up to four players can hop into the game and duke it out against hordes of enemies, but the online multiplayer is still a ways off from completion.

They plan on running the game through Early Access for anywhere between six and 12 months. So after the Kickstarter concludes you can expect to see it hit Early Access and then somewhere in the middle of 2017 it may be complete, but if not you can expect it to graduate Early Access by this time next year.

They also have plans on announcing a PlayStation 4 version of Space Jammers for those who are interested in playing with their friends on a home console.

You can download a free demo of Space Jammers by visiting the GameJolt download page. Alternatively, if you feel this is something you would like to see come to fruition, you can contribute to the financial cause by visiting the Kickstarter page.
