Weekly Recap Dec 24th: Overwatch’s Tracer Is A Muff Diver
(Last Updated On: December 24, 2016)

Blizzard thought you all should know that. Carry on.

On to the real news of the week… the Washington Post rolled out a full-on fake news piece claiming that #GamerGate was a harassment campaign that opened the floodgates for PizzaGate. The two are completely different things, sharing only media misrepresentation and censorship in common.

The SPJ Kunkel Awards will add a new category to the awards this week for the “Worst Story of the Year” in gaming. This is obviously some piece that managed to get all the facts wrong, completely bungled all the core talking points and generally misconstrued the core issues of the piece. I know, I know… it’s going to be hard trying to find just one piece for that category, but gamers will have to tough through it. And the Honey Badgers Brigade will finally have their day in court on January 12th , when they have The Mary Sue and the Calgary Expo face the consequences of trying to hide behind argumentative gossamer and feigned claims of harassment. These stories and more in this December 24th, 2016 Christmas edition of the Weekly Recap.

Washington Post Embraces Fake News

Washington Post has gone full Fake News when it comes to both PizzaGate and #GamerGate. They’ve taken to smearing #GamerGate once more as a source of being a harassment campaign, only the facts don’t seem to hold up to that standard. The first major gameplay trailer for Dragon Quest XI was announced, along with the news that the game is coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2017, and will get a Universal Studios Japan attraction ride when the Super Nintendo World opens in 2020. You can get your hands on a free Resident Evil demo right now for PC. And Koei Tecmo announced that Dynasty Warriors 9 is coming for home consoles, and is currently in development by Omega Force in Japan.

Top Games Of 2016

Nick Monroe, contributor for One Angry Gamer, put together a list of games that struck his fancy in 2016. He rolled out his top 6 games of year. The highly coveted New Game+ for Dishonored 2 has gone live and is currently available for download as a free update on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Now here’s an interesting bit of news, a hunting game with a wireless shotgun called Buck Hunter Pro has launched alongside the Sure Shot HD peripheral. There’s a petition going on for For Honor, as gamers are desperately beginning Ubisoft to add dedicated servers to the game. And there’s a tournament set to take place in January where gamers can attempt to win a free trip to EVO 2017.

SPJ Kunkel Awards Return With A Vengeance

The Kunkels made a comeback this year, this time adding some new categories to the mix, one of which includes the worst story of the year award, which a lot of gamers can’t wait to see who is nominated for that one. The NieR: Automata demo has landed on the PlayStation Store in Japan, and you can download the demo right now for free. Pokemon Prism bit the dust due to Nintendo stepping in and shutting down the game on the grounds of copyright infringement. We’ve got a review up of Aurion, the African-themed action-RPG that was Kickstarted and launched on Steam. And the gaming industry brought in $91 billion in revenue in 2016, according to a new report from Superdata Research.

The Mary Sue And Calgary Expo Must Appear In Court Regarding #GamerGate

Justice could be coming to all those pundits and cultural agitators. The Honey Badgers have finally nailed down a court date to bring justice and hurt down upon the Calgary Expo and The Mary Sue. The hammer of justice will fall down heavy on the heads of the charlatans come January 12th. Some gamers got into a huge argument over the science involved with a death battle between Wolverine versus Wonder Woman after the battle ended in a way that had a lot people calling foul. The King of Fighters XIV was updated with a free costume for long-time entrant Athena based on her outing in King of Fighters ’98. And since this week was so full of the topic of yuri content on social media, I’m sure games media will be pleased at the new Heroine Rumble H-game that features various female fighters getting hot and heavy in some risque, sexual wrestling. The game is still early in development but it shows promise.
