Injustice 2 Trailer Reveals Braniac, Poison Ivy And Darkseid

A new cinematic trailer for Injustice 2 has arrived that confirms additional characters being added to the roster, including Bane, Robin, Poison Ivy, Darkseid and Braniac.

Darkseid, however, will only be available as a pre-order bonus. They couldn’t risk having a much-desired character in the DC Universe available without locking them behind a paywall, now could they?

The trailer itself is exceptionally well done. It has a great tone and pace and it doesn’t just throw characters into good guy and bad guy brackets. It picks up exactly after the end of Injustice 2, where the alternate Earth Superman is still imprisoned under the red sun effect, but now Supergirl has joined the fray and it appears the evil Superman may have escaped.

So how did the evil Superman escape? Well, the trailer hints at the damaged and emotionally distraught Superman possibly receiving some aid from Braniac, who is briefly showcased overseeing the events of the alternate DC Universe. Braniac also narrates the characterizations for the heroes in the trailer.

The trailer also seems to hint at Supergirl possibly being evil. Then again, in the alternate universe Wonder Woman was aligned with the dictatorial Superman, so if Supergirl is fighting that Wonder Woman then it could mean that Supergirl is actually good…?

Injustice 2 - Superman

The alliances are tough to pick out in the trailer alone, but I’m really glad that the evil Superman wasn’t just portrayed as evil. They did a quick flashback scene showing him holding Lois Lane with their unborn child in his arms after he was tricked into killing them by the Joker. That dastardly act of evil is what led Superman down a path of darkness, resulting in him killing the Joker and setting himself at odds against Batman. Hopefully they continue to explore the evil Superman’s descent and don’t just make it another Batman wank-fest.

The two universes allowed NetherRealm to craft an interesting story around the game based on the comic book series of the same name. While it’s not canon the Injustice storyline has been praised by fans and the game has been highly regarded by both gamers and comic book lovers alike.

Injustice 2 is due for release on May 16th for the PS4 and Xbox One, and we can expect to see some more character showcases for each of the newly revealed villains leading up to the game’s release this spring. For more info feel free to check out the official Injustice website.
