On March 3rd the Belko VR experience will be available for free for one day only. It’s not the best of timing given that it’s the same day that Nintendo launches the Nintendo Switch. The timing couldn’t be more inconvenient for a lot of gamers.
Nevertheless, the Belko VR app’s availability coincides with Employee Appreciation Day. It’s a tongue-in-cheek bit of fun that Orion is using to poke fun at the fact that the app is based on the James Gunn movie of the same name, The Belko Experiment, where employees are tasked with killing each other off.
Dan Clifton, who co-produced the film and also developed the game, commented in the press release exactly what they were aiming for with the Belko VR game, saying…
“We felt that we had a unique opportunity to do something a little crazy by taking the core idea of being trapped in the Belko Industries building and distilling that down to a Roomscale experience,” “Players will become a Belko employee and be immersed into a fight for survival. It’s fun, at times threatening and scary and fully interactive.”
The game sees players attempting to escape from the office building before the chip in the back of their head explodes. This requires solving various puzzles and performing logic tasks in order to escape from the harrowing nightmare where employees are trying to kill each other and the bomb in your head is primed to blow.
There’s a video trailer of the Belko VR game that you can check out below to give you an idea of what the game is like and how it’s played.
The trailer reveals that the game is a room-scale VR experience, so if you have an HTC Vive with enough room to move around in, it will give you a bit of play room to solve the puzzles and complete the challenge.
The actual gameplay appears to be similar to other games like Job Simulator.
There appears to be some traps to overcome, item searching, and lots of frantic panicking to be had. If you have an HTC Vive it might not be a bad idea to grab a copy of the game since it will be available for free.
The Belko Experiment movie is due for release in theaters on March 17th a few weeks after the VR game is made available digitally.
