Rebel Horizons, Unreal Engine 4 Sandbox Game Announced

Entrada Interactive announced that they’re working on a new Unreal Engine 4-powered game called Rebel Horizons. The game debuted during GDC this year, with trailer showing in-engine footage of a guy hopping onto an anti-grav bike and riding into town.

The game is obviously set in the far future, featuring high-tech space gear, Western-inspired rifles and some cool sci-fi tech. You can check out the debut announcement trailer below.

The hook for the game is that it’s running on SpatialOS, which is designed as a sort of cloud engine server that allows developers to seed cross-engine worlds to players seamlessly through the network.

They certainly don’t explain how this technology will affect Rebel Horizons through the teaser trailer above, but they do offer more insight over on the official website.

The game will supposedly allow players to venture around a quantum universe, where different outposts, cities and colonies can be visited, raided or mined.

They have a deep harvesting system setup where players will be able to deploy harvesters and extract resources throughout their journey. It sounds a little bit like the early days of Firefall. Technically, being a harvester and fighting to protect your mining outfit would seem pretty cool, especially if you bring a few friends along for the journey.

There will be player customization, unlike the multiplayer mode of Mass Effect: Andromeda, and there will be a persistent universe to explore.

Now one of the more intriguing aspects is that they’re claiming Rebel Horizons will be a game where you can be interplanetary nerf herder, or an intergalactic bounty hunter. You can be a rogue thief or a bandit. An enforcer or an adventurer. The game has a player-driven economy based on trade routes and cargo shipments, along with resource smuggling and gathering.

In order to get good at being anything you want to be be, you can use your credits to upgrade your character, stacking their stats and purchasing new gear, including body modifications.

It sounds ambitious, but this wouldn’t be the first time a game has promised this kind of content. We’ll see how well it all turns out when some actual gameplay footage is released. In the meantime feel free to visit the official website to sign-up for the newsletter.
