Nintendo Switch Wins March NPD; Legend of Zelda Had 102% Attach Rate

The NPD charts are in for March, 2017, and Nintendo came out the winner. The Nintendo Switch sold 906,000 SKUs in North America, while the remaining stock of their 2 million SKU supply was split between Japan, Europe and Australia.

According to Nintendo Everything, there was more than a 102% attachment rate between Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the Nintendo Switch, with some gamers buying additional copies of the game even when they didn’t own the system. breath of the Wild managed to move 925,000 units.

According to Nintendo Everything, a rep explained…

“The reasoning here “may be attributed to people who purchased both a limited edition of the game to collect and a second version to play.”

Some people have also noted that when purchasing the Nintendo Switch bundles they’re receiving the guide books, extra controller and a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but not the system. So unit sales are still moving for Breath of the Wild even when the systems aren’t. The reason for this – according to some people who pre-ordered from places like Wal-Mart and Target – is that the retailers aren’t holding pre-ordered units and are selling them at a first come, first serve basis, thus forcing some people to have to wait longer for their Switch units to arrive if they ordered online.

Places like NowinStock.com have continually shown that the Nintendo Switch has stayed sold out across the U.S., and Japan.

According to a representative for Nintendo, they explained to Nintendo Everything that they’re working hard to start fulfilling demand by ramping up supply…

“While Nintendo Switch sales are off to a record-breaking start, shipments have not yet been able to keep up with such high demand. Nintendo is working to make sure everyone who wants a system is able to buy one, and more systems are continually being shipped.”

Meanwhile, both Sony and Microsoft came in second and third respectively, with the PS4 beating the Xbox One.

Microsoft retaliated by claiming that more than 1.1 billion hours of Xbox Live were logged for the month of March, according to a report from Game Revolution.

Sony had nothing to say, but but they’ve managed to outpace the Xbox One five months in a row with the PS4, so that’s better than nothing.
