It seems like most of the news wires these days are filled to the brim with “Quiet this” and “Quiet that”. It’s not shocking given that everyone with a strong attachment to Kojima’s series who has played and finished Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has even stronger feelings about Quiet.
Well, if having Quiet as a buddy isn’t enough and modding the game to get her back isn’t enough, a new mod makes it possible to actually play as Quiet. That’s right… the bikini clad sniper with a vow of deadly silence can replace a female member of mother base and you can play as her, all for your heart’s delight.
Modder NoShigu, also known on YouTube as ShiguWorks, as a mod available for the PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain that allows you to play as Quiet in place of a female member of mother base. You can download the mod from Nexusmods.com. You’ll also need the QAR Tools or TPP Tools to extract the necessary files, modify them and repack them if you don’t already have the tools. A finished version of the model swap can be viewed in the video below via ShiguWorks.
Shigu notes that there are still some kinks that need to be worked out, stating…
“Quiet in her default model. Most bugs from previous model swaps have been solved. But there are still some pretty apparent proportion bugs.”
What kind of apparent proportion bugs? Well, if you don’t swap the files right proper you may end up with a hideous monstrosity. Take for example someone in the comment section of the YouTube video who didn’t properly swap the files and ended up botching Quiet worse than Tara Reid’s boob job.
To install the mod you will need to unpack the “chunk0.dat” file and replace all the files extracted files from the mod into the “chunk0.dat” folder and then repack. The files you’ll need to repack are listed below. They are the player model swaps to put Quiet in place of the playable female soldier at mother base.
Shigu also instructs you on what gear Quiet must wear for it to work properly, stating…
“You must equip the Sneaking Suit and SP-Headgear on any female motherbase member.”
This mod will also enable you to make use of the Quiet XOF outfit, too. You can see how it looks in the video below.
You can download the mod to make Quiet playable in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain from over on Nexusmods.com.
This is a nice, juicy fix for PC gamers but unfortunately there’s no fix for the heartbroken console gamers who have lost Quiet forever. For those of you playing on the PlayStation and Xbox, the best you can do is restart the game, get Quiet back, finish one mission where she gets more kills than you, unlock the “Butterfly” emblem and then apply it on your patch and never remove it if you don’t want her to go away.
