Some gamers are really in love with Thekla Inc’s The Witness for PS4 and PC. The game has received high marks from some outlets and low marks from some gamers. It’s a divisive game based heavily on puzzle solving and critical thinking. Some gamers have had serious problems getting stuck on certain puzzles and there are ways to overcome those puzzles thanks to guides and walkthroughs made available online.
For instance, PS4 Trophies has a 14 video playlist covering the various Symmetry puzzles, Desert Ruin puzzles, the Monastery puzzles, the Bunker puzzles, the Treehouse and Bridge puzzles, the Shady Tree puzzles, the Jungle puzzles, the Mountain puzzles and the Hedge Maze puzzles. Check it out below.
At the start of the game you have to activate puzzles and follow the proper paths to get to the end of those puzzles. For the starting puzzles the start and the finish line of the puzzle will flash. For the tutorial area some of the more difficult puzzles can be easily completed by following the exit points and working back to the starting area.
For some of the puzzles you will need to overlap the nodes in the puzzles before getting to the exit. For some of the puzzles you also have to block or separate the white blocks from the black blocks. This requires a lot of careful plotting and paying attention to the placement of the blocks for separating those lines.
You can run by using L2 and the left analog stick to get through certain areas rather quickly. Some people like to stick around and survey the area while others like moving through as fast as possible. If you want to see an alternative take on the walkthrough of the game, YouTuber Keith Ballard has a progressive walkthrough of the game as well, covering various puzzles and locations throughout The Witness. You can check out his ever-growing playlist of the game below.
One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes it’s not about the methods for solving the puzzle that get tricky, but understanding how to find the proper method for solving the puzzle. This may require surveying the environment or understanding how some of the puzzles interact with each other. For specific puzzles it’s difficult to describe exactly what to do, but as the videos above showcase, sometimes it’s best to take a moment to breathe and look over each puzzle to see how it starts, how it ends and how it connects to the environment.
Now if the only thing you care about is checking out the theater movies scattered about the game or you need a guide to the paper puzzle collectible locations, the video below covers all of that. Check it out.
The Witness is available right now for the PS4 and PC. The game has already sold more than 120,000 copies in its first week of being made available and has garnered Thekla a breezy $5 million in revenue.
You can pick the game up from either the Steam store or from the PlayStation store as a digital download.
