Rocket League Cross-Play Goes Live Between Xbox One And PC Users

Psyonix has been attempting to bridge the gap in the console wars by allowing users from different platforms to battle each other in their competitive, action-sports game, Rocket League. Today, that dream has become a partial reality with Xbox One users now able to compete against PC users in Rocket League.

Psyonix had sent out word previously making it known that PS4 and PC users could battle against each other and that they would love to make it where PC and Xbox One users could duke it out, and eventually make it where PS4 and Xbox One users could go head-to-head. The latter scenario is still in the pipeline (being held up by Sony from last we heard) but Xbox One and PC users are capable of trading blows and goals in the vehicular combat sports title.

Jeremy Dunham, the vice president at Psyonix, commented about the new feature in the press release, saying…

“We’re really excited to bring Xbox One and PC players closer together,” […] “Cross-network play has been something that Xbox One gamers have been asking us for since the day we launched, and thanks to Microsoft’s new cross-network policies, we’re proud to give it to them.”

Users who want to extend and expand their multiplayer horizons can do so with the simple flick of a toggle in the options menu, which will allow users to turn on where or not they want to battle against other players on different platforms.

The cross-platform play is currently available between PC and PS4 users and PC and Xbox One users. The last hurdle for Psyonix is getting PS4 and Xbox One users to play together on the same network. Whether or not Sony will give the go-ahead is anyone’s guess, but surprisingly Microsoft is a-okay with cross-platform play.

Back in March, ID@Xbox head honcho Chris Charla posted an open letter on the Xbox news wire letting the world know that the Xbox One was ready to take on cross-platform gameplay. It looks like they’ve held to their word now that Rocket League users can play against one another between PC and Xbox One platforms.
