Dead Bug Creek Is A Psychonauts inspired VR Adventure Game

Dead Bug Creek is a new virtual reality game designed specifically for VR headsets, developed by the indie team at California Rex. Dead Bug Creek was inspired by titles such as the X-Files, the quirky adventure game Psychonauts, as well as the movie The Goonies.

I’m not a very big fan of VR games, but Dead Bug Creek is one of the few that is an actual adventure game designed for Playstation VR, the Oculus RIFT, and the HTC Vive. You are placed in the shoes of an alien explorer searching for the “Ultimate Prize”, but your quest takes a small detour as you bump into the exuberant young girl named Flora. Players will be able to explore Dead Bug Creek to see everything the town has to offer, while also interacting and talking with the locals in the town.

Graphically, Dead Bug Creek looks a bit outdated with its cartoon 3D graphics, but at the same time it has the charm and aesthetic feel of Psychonauts, so I personally don’t mind the graphical quality too much, since it has a Saturday morning Nickelodeon cartoon style going for it.

Dead Bug Creek will offer you puzzles, the ability to collect treasure using a special device designed to locate mysterious objects of value, and of course the experience of adventuring and exploring all of Dead Bug Creek in first person in full 3D VR town. The developers released a small teaser trailer to showcase the game, so I linked the video down below so you can see what it is like.

Dead Bug Creek is currently holding a Kickstarter campaign to earn a bit more money to finish the game and add in more content, but they currently only have about 15 days remaining before the campaign ends, and they still need quite a bit more money to reach their funding goal.

If everything goes according to plan, Dead Bug Creek is scheduled to release later this year. If you are interested in showing your support, you can follow the above link to learn more about their VR adventure game project.
