E3 2016: Dual Universe Features A Single-Shard MMO Experience

Novaquark recently announced that they’re slowly advancing through the development process of their 64-bit MMO for PC called Dual Universe.

The game’s alpha footage was debut during E3 with a quick and slick trailer that showcases the modular ship building, the single-shard universe with voxel-based construction, and some of the flight mechanics that players will utilize in order to get around the environment. You can check out the minute and a half trailer below.

The rendering and performance looks good. A lot of games trying to aim for a single-shard, planetary-sized construction sandbox usually have issues with optimization and performance. Space Engineers and Star Citizen both have issues with the process of getting from space to the planet and out of the ship without bringing performance down to a halt. It’s a promising feature if developers can make it work, but not many have been able to do so.

Hello Games will attempt to prove if they’ve managed to master the optimization of performance with the transition from planet to space travel when No Man’s Sky launches later this summer, and Novaquark will also attempt do the same when they finally get Dual Universe up and out to the public.

According to Jean-Christophe Baillie, CEO and founder of Novaquark, he commented about the game, stating…

“We are extremely proud and thankful to be part of the projects being presented during the PC Gaming Show this year.” […] “We are confident that our first look trailer will please the tens of thousands of fans that have been following us so far through our social channels, eager to hear and see more about Dual Universe”.

The game’s procedurally generated planets, unlimited level of detail and modular ship construction could help put Dual Universe on the map alongside games like Planet Nomads and Empyrion: Galactic Survival.
