E3 2016: We Happy Few Shows Creepy Gameplay In New Video

The creepy game set during the 1960’s comes We Happy Few by Compulsion Games. Both developed and published by Compulsion, the procedurally generated horror, mystery game puts players in the shoes of a character who is labeled as a “Downer” for not taking his regular pills to “function.” Set to debut first for Xbox One, it will hit PC and will be available via Steam at a later date.

I don’t know why, but this game reminds me of A Clockwork Orange. Maybe it’s because of that cop giving off that creepy sadistic grin like Alex does in various scenes. I think it’s worth noting that this game looks creepy, but very interesting at the same time making it look like a good mystery survival game.

Furthermore, the game holds some similarities to the book The Giver, where the folks that reside in Wellington Wells sustain by taking pills and if you don’t you are labeled a “Downer,” and face harsh consequences. Adding on to its interesting premise is its time era, colorful aesthetics and their strange faces, which adds to its unique manner. You can read the official description below.

“Set in a retrofuturistic 1960s, you will find a city ravaged by war and rebuilt by delusionally happy people. Everything appears to be happy in Wellington Wells, including the roads, the people, and its omnipresent television personality, Uncle Jack! However, it’s a beautiful world on the brink of collapse. You will discover the history of this world, and how it came to be just so beguilingly happy.”

Though strange, I can see a lot of YouTubers streaming this game and making a bunch of “Let’s Plays” and “Walkthroughs,” but it seems like a fun game to watch but also a fun game to play, too. If you’re curious and want to see a video of it, XCageGame has an E3 video showing actual gameplay that shows what looks to be near the beginning of the game.

As noted above, We Happy Few will release first on Xbox One and will be playable later on PC. This is accompanied by a Steam release that is set to launch on July 26th.
