Mirage: Arcane Warfare Is a Persian Influenced Gorefest

Torn Banner Studios released a new behind-the-scenes video featuring the developers talking up the highlights and themes behind the gore in Mirage: Arcane Warfare. They describe it as a Persian influenced gorefest.

The video only clocks in at three and a half minutes, but it gives you enough blood, flying limbs and severed heads to last you while. You can check out the video below.

The gore isn’t there to make people gag and vomit, it’s there for a couple of reasons. The first is that they want some kind of visual feedback on the damage that players have incurred and the damage that they are incurring on others. Second, they want new players to feel as if they can be badass even if they are getting their butt kicked, it’s a way to help give them some feeling of payoff for putting in the work to hack and slash on their opponents. Third, the gore works as a bit of levity – it’s comically gory with floaty physics, so players can have a laugh or two at the expense of these bodies slamming against walls and flying in the air as they get whacked, hammered and blasted across the arenas.

In addition to the melee-based combat, they also have some very cool magic attacks that players can utilize as well. The magic can be dispensed against enemies in a number of different ways, from AOE style attacks to short range projectiles to long range status effects, there’s a healthy mixture of different magic skills that players can utilize to take out their opponents.

Additionally, each of the stages will be designed around beautiful, Persian-inspired locations. This includes a lot of middle-east inspiration for the architecture and décor, as well as the lighting and overall aesthetic appeal.

If you enjoyed Chivalry: Medieval Warfare then you’re likely going to enjoy Mirage: Arcane Warfare. The new location and added magic attacks should help give the game a unique feel with a familiar gameplay approach.

You can expect to see more of the game at this year’s E3, particularly during the PC Gaming Show. You can learn more about the game by paying a visit to the official Mirage website.
