Mongrel Returns To Kickstarter, Promises To Be Metroidvania Meets Conker’s Bad Fur Day

The small indie team from out of Norway called Fischmell have returned to Kickstarter in hopes of getting their Metroidvania title Mongrel Kickstarted for release.

Originally they tried to get the game Kickstarted earlier in the year back during the spring, but things didn’t quite turn out so well for them.

This time around they’ve tweaked the game, tweaked the content and added a lot more character to the main character, Finch the Frog. In fact, they’ve implemented 20 different facial expressions for him during cut-scenes and interactions, doing so in hopes of getting gamers more attached to the leaping amphibian.

You can check out the pitch video below for Mongrel to get a better idea of what the game is about.

The action-platformer features a large world that can be traversed using Finch’s jumping, leaping and tongue-swinging action.

Fischmell has also gone the extra mile in getting voice actors to impart some personality onto the characters. They’re doing so in hopes of bringing a Conker’s Bad Fur Day-feel to the game’s atmosphere.

They give a rough overview of what the world map might look like using a concept photo that you can check out below. They want players to be able to explore every nook and cranny both high and low.

They’re basically gunning for towns above ground, caves below ground, and cliffs to scale up in the air.

The music will be composed by Jonathan Geer. They give a small taste of what the overworld music is like, the cave music, the adventure tunes and more in a quick demo video that you can check out below.

The music reminds me a little bit of Terraria.

They have a crowd-funding goal of $26,934 with 29 days to go. They’ve managed to accrue $2,700 on the first day so far. Not bad.

If things go well they’ll be able to finish the title up and get it out by the fall of 2017… November, to be exact. If you want to see Mongrel get finished and you feel this is something worth contributing to, you can learn more or contribute to the cause by visiting the Kickstarter page.
