Terraria For Wii U Lands On Retail Shelves For $29.99

505 Games has teamed with indie developers Re-Logic to launch the physical retail edition of Terraria of Wii U onto a store shelf near you.

The game features all of the same brick-building, dirt-clumping, ground-digging, Cthulhu-battling action that you’ve grown to love from the digital release of the game on other platforms, including PC.

Dean Scott, a producer of 505 Games, commented about the release of the game on retail shelves, stating in the press release…

“Terraria for Wii U offers a gaming experience that’s designed perfectly for the touchscreen controls of the Wii U”[…] “505 Games has continuously updated and refined the gameplay for nearly all consoles and devices, and now we’re bringing the wildly popular 2D crafting gameplay to the Nintendo Wii U community.”

The fact that you can use the touchscreen to build and craft while still doing want to do on the main screen is a pretty cool feature. What’s more is that if you want to give up the touchscreen being used for inventory purposes and you want to focus on sharing one of those screens with another player, you can do so thanks to the built-in split-screen co-op feature for the game.

It’s also possible to take the game online and join seven other players for a total of eight-player online co-op or competitive action.

There’s added achievements, Miiverse leaderboard support and online stat tracking. I was unaware of this but the press release states that 18 million copies of Terraria have been sold in total across all platforms, so that’s insane numbers for a little indie title.

You can look to pick up a physical copy of Terraria from a retail shelf near you, including Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop and Walmart in North America. The game is available for $29.99. For more info you can hit up the game’s official website.

It’s a little odd to me that they would release a physical version of Terraria on the Wii U when the Wii U is dying worse than the bloated and self-congratulatory music industry, but if it means more numbers for that 18 million total, then I guess it might be worth it in the long run for both 505 Games and Re-Logic.
