Age of Barbarian ARENA Offers Bloody combat And Scantily clad Warriors On Steam Greenlight

The bloody action of the Age of Barbarian series returns, but this time inside the deadly pits of an arena.

Developers Crian Soft have recently submitted Age of Barbarian Arena to the Steam Greenlight community.

For those of you that love classic side-scrolling action beat’em up arcade games, you’ll probably love this one. Age of Barbarian Arena takes the old-school formula from games like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct, then proceeds to throw in the theme from Conan the Barbarian to combine it all together into an action fighting game.

There isn’t much information about Age of Barbarian Arena, and the information that is available is extremely limited. However, I did find that Arena seems to be an older title from 2013 that the developers seem to be re-releasing for the Steam store.

Age of Barbarian Arena appears to take the concept and characters from the previous game to turn it into a combat fighting game. Unlike the Extended Cut version, the developers have changed the content, stages, and characters, to have players battle it out in a fight to the death.

There appears to be four playable characters available to choose from- Rahaan The Barbarian, Sheyna The Warrior Princess (yes, they went there), Sion The Berserker, and Ayla The Savage Girl (Chrono Trigger reference?). Every character will have their own unique fighting style, combos and weapons for you to master.

Players will be able to play alone or fight with a friend in the Arena. The description lists the game as having local co-op, so it appears that you will be fighting side-by-side, but so far it isn’t confirmed if it is purely player vs player deathmatch, or if it really does have a local co-op mode (it looks like it is just 1 on 1 PVP).

The previous game Age of Barbarian Extended Cut offered a mix of fantasy adventure with a brutal bloody combat system that allowed you to hack off body parts, chop off heads, and slice and dice enemies to a bloody pulp, all while traveling in a Arcade Fantasy Adventure Barbarian world.

I’m not sure if Age of Barbarian Arena will focus purely on the Deathmatch combat aspect in an arena setting, or if it will still have a story and adventure elements where you will be able to travel to new locations, but based on the below trailer it appears that it will focuses purely on the combat arena. Take a look at the Age of Barbarian Arena gameplay trailer that I linked down below to see what it’s like.
