Well, it looks like Koei Tecmo got their balls back after they were tucked between their legs and locked in a box when they announced that they weren’t bringing Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 to the West due to fear of SJWs and third-wave feminists. The game managed to have record breaking import sales due to a lot of fans showing support for Koei Tecmo, and apparently that gave them enough confidence to start considering going back to their old ways.
The company recently sent out a trailer announcing that the bounciest, most buxom female fighter in all of video game history will be making her debut for the first time in the Dead or Alive series, starting this September.
AllGamesDelta picked up the news from the official Dead or Alive YouTube channel, where a very simple 26 second teaser trailer was posted featuring Mai Shiranui from SNK’s King of Fighters series making a glamorous appearance in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round.
The trailer starts by panning up Mai’s legs before focusing on her upper body as she does her patented pose, catching her fan that results in her twin cannons vertically realigning like buoys in the ocean. You can check it out below.
A couple of takeaways here… first of all the trailer does nothing but highlight Mai’s curvaceous figure. I’m sure there are some white knight journalists furiously typing up a storm in their xerfriend’s closet about how the trailer objectifies Mai’s body, but Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo seem as if they just do not care this time around.
Second, the only highlight of the trailer was Mai’s bouncing breasts. It’s as if Team Ninja held up a middle finger in the form of mammary physics to everyone who has been complaining about boob physics in games. The entire lead-up to Mai’s reveal was just to see her boobies jiggle. Team Ninja has effectively gone full “IDGAF” when it comes to the media’s criticisms about female representation in games.
Third, of all the characters to have as a crossover, Mai definitely makes the most sense for the Dead or Alive franchise, but it’s also very telling because she is the very epitome of the thing that culture critics like Anita Sarkeesian have been complaining about for the three or four years that she’s been associated with the gaming industry.
It’s as if Team Ninja has finally readjusted their flameproof jockstrap and said “Screw it… boobs are life.”
While I’ve never personally been a fan of the Dead or Alive series, it is good to see that Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo are standing by the franchise that they built from the ground up with their own blood, sweat and tears.
The crossover promotion with SNK is also perfect timing because King of Fighters XIV launches at the end of August for the PS4. So even if you feel like passing on that entry, you can still enjoy Mai’s cleavage-baring ninjitsu antics in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round this September.
Additionally, Team Ninja will also be adding other King of Fighters costumes to the roster, with the developers paying homage to Yuri, Kasumi Todoh, and Hinako Shijou. It looks like SNK is really trying to make a comeback, and they’re on the right path with the crossover. Now maybe we can get a Tekken x King of Fighters crossover at some point in the near future?
