Pokemon Go Leads Teen To Dead Body

A 19-year-old Shayla Wiggins living in a trailer park in Wyoming, managed to catch more than just a Pokemon on a Friday morning at around 8:40am. The teen was playing Nintendo and Niantic Labs’ newest Pokemon Go for mobile devices, venturing into uncharted territory outside of her home, when she happened upon a dead body floating in the river nearby.

According to KTVQ, the news station is reporting that Wiggins hopped a fence and went searching by the river for water Pokemon, attempting to flesh out her library of the pocket monsters with something fresh and new, except for the only thing fresh added to the inventory of her memories was that of a cadaver. And by fresh, I mean the body was less than 24 hours old.

Wiggins explained to the news station…

“The Pokemons are all over Riverton,” […] “I was trying to get a Pokemon from a natural water resource.”

“I was walking towards the bridge along the shore when I saw something in the water,” […] “I had to take a second look and I realized it was a body.”

Wiggins called the police and they came to investigate. According to County 10 the body was only three feet from the shore and police believe it was an accident.

The deceased man in the river wasn’t identified in the KTVQ or County 10 reports, but it’s odd that it’s being ruled as an “accident”. Maybe he walked off the bridge? Maybe it was suicide? Maybe he was hit? It seems odd to rule it an accident, but obviously the police know more the public.

Most people commenting about the story were asking whether or not Wiggins dug deep, put the body out of her mind and captured whatever Pokemon were in the area. Some people joked that police recovered the body by throwing a Poke Ball at it, others joked that this is what happens when you go outside, while others complained about people joking about a young girl discovering a dead body while playing Pokemon Go.

It’s a completely different kind of scenario compared to what Australian emergency services were warning people about, in which case they were telling people to stay alert and be careful while playing Pokemon Go. In this case Shayla Wiggins was definitely the one being alert, which is how she happened upon the dead body.
