Prey’s Protagonist, Weapons And Setting Detailed In New Video

Bethesda and Arkane Studios plan to deliverer a new edition of Prey that won’t be a remake of the original game, nor will it continue what Prey 2 had revealed in its trailer. Prey is a re-imaging of the game’s universe, and just received a new video explaining brief information regarding the main character, weapons and the setting. Prey is set to come out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2017.

Watching some trailers for the original Prey and Prey 2, it seems as if a lot of people are mad that Bethesda and Arkane Studios are re-imaging Human Head Studios’ game, and now say that they are looking forward to CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. Yes, although I’m really excited about Cyberpunk 2077, I don’t think that this new Prey will automatically be bad from the start, seeing how we know almost close to nothing about this iteration.

In addition to Prey 2, I know a lot of people wanted to play a space pirate/bounty hunter. However, because we have a full year ahead of us, the devs can surprise us with any number of things.

With that said, Bethesda recently published a video interview that took place back during E3, which shows Raphael Colantonio — President of Arkane Studio and Creative Director of Prey — explaining a little about the protagonist, weapons and setting.

Colantonio explained that the player will assume the role of Morgan, which the player will be given the option to pick either a male or female in the beginning of the game.

Something that I noticed when watching the video, he mentioned a lot that there will be no set paths with enemies, and that choices and other actions all act as if they are in a simulation. I wonder if this means no two playthroughs will be the same, or if something similar to side quest will be tacked on to the main story that stand as optional routes? I guess we will have to wait and see.

Lastly, weapons sound like they are optional to the player. Tools and other items can double over as guns, as well as blunt/cutting weapons to hurt enemies. Again, a lot of what he was talking about sounds as if it’s all optional, but I would advise folks to take a grain of salt with these features, seeing how things planned early can change dramatically on release.

You can check out the new video that Bethesda posted up, which runs for two minutes and 40 seconds.

As noted above, I have no ideal how the finished product of this Prey will be on release, but like with most games set to come out at the end of this year or next year, we’ll need to wait to learn more about this title. However, something that is a know fact is that the game will come out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2017.
