Browsing through some of the new games that have just arrived on Steam led me to a brand new VR title from Survios called Raw Data. It’s just entered into Early Access and the developers have laid out the roadmap ahead for the first-person, action-movie inspired VR title.
The game sees players taking on the role of a top operative from the Syndik8 organization, designed to steal data from the Eden Corp inside the Eden Tower. Of course, in order to get to the data core players must battle through waves of Eden’s high-tech robot army.
Set in the year 2271, the game makes use of all sorts of fantasy and sci-fi weaponry and themes, giving gamers plenty of devastating items to utilize within their arsenal.
The game really took me by surprise thanks to the awesome trailer that Survios let loose to commemorate the game’s step into Early Access. Most VR games look like trash (as far as mechanics and gameplay is concerned), but Raw Data looks like it could be kind of fun. Check it out below.
Running on the Unreal Engine 4, the game sports high-end facial expressions and top notch LOD, along with a barrage of smooth and destructive animations for the army robots that will fall to your sword, telekinesis, guns, and technopowers. There’s even an online co-op mode for two players.
It reminds me of a mix of Equilibrium and a little bit of Superhot. Those aren’t bad combinations.
Players will have access to bows, fists, shotguns, dual pistols and more, as they battle through the Eden forces to make their way to the top of the tower. Survios has plans on adding in more playable heroes, more weapons and more content as they position the game to release in late 2016.
On the Steam Early Access page the very first update from the developers is the roadmap of what they have planned for release down the line, this includes a number of new missions, new AI pathing systems, new enemy types, new items, new tutorials and several new heroes. You can check out the full roadmap over on the Steam page.
If you feel like this is something you would love to play with your HTC Vive and its dual motion controllers, feel free to learn more or pick up a digital copy of Raw Data for the not-so-cheap price of $39.99 from the Steam store. For the first week of availability you can get the title discounted at 20% off for only $31.99.
And if you had plans on picking up a copy of this game but you don’t have a VR headset… forget about it. It’s only compatible with VR headsets.
