If you have the Xbox 360 versions of Red Dead Redemption, you’ll be pleased to know that all versions of the game that released last generation on Microsoft’s console will be playable on the Xbox One starting July 8th.

Rockstar sent out word recently over on their official website, announcing that the game has been made fully compatible with the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility feature.

According to the short and brief news post, the Red Dead Redemption compatibility extends to all versions of the game released, including the standalone DLC, Undead Nightmare…

“[…] every Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360 owner will be able to play the game directly on their Xbox One, regardless of which version of the game they own (Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare and Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition). And for those who have yet to experience it, the game will be available to purchase on Friday from the Games Store on Xbox One.”

So if you downloaded Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare or the Game of the Year Edition, you’ll be able to re-download it from your Xbox Live profile onto your Xbox One. If you purchased each of the games from a retail outlet, you’ll be able to insert the disc into the Xbox One and have the respective games download from Microsoft’s servers.

This has been a long time in the making given that a lot of people have been wanting to get their hands on Red Dead for the eighth gen consoles, and those loyal to Microsoft will be able to do just that.

This news doesn’t completely come out of the blue, however. We’ve known that Red Dead Redemption was coming to the Xbox One since back in February of this year, when one of Microsoft’s engineers accidentally left the Xbox One version of the game on his profile, and it enabled some quick-thinking gamers to load the game onto their Xbox One through his profile. Impressive stuff… impressive stuff indeed.

Well, no more roundabout waiting or installation trickery is required to play the game. You’ll be able to enjoy Red Dead Redemption and all of its iterations on the Xbox One starting this Friday, July 8th.
