Shattered Skies Appears To Be The MMO DayZ Was Supposed To Be

While gamers still await the official launch of DayZ, which has been in Early Access for the past couple of years, new developers have stepped into the fray in an attempt to pick up the mantle and become the new king of survival MMOs. One of those games happens to be Free Reign Entertainment’s Shattered Skies.

The game has officially launched on Steam for $24.99. For the first week of being on sale you can grab a copy for only $22.49.

Shattered Skies thrusts players into a large open world with lots of other players as they attempt to survive against hostile mutant creatures… and other players.

The game features PvP modes, PvE survival, looting of weapons and items, customizable gear, crafting and NPC trading. You can get an idea of what the game features with the trailer below.

I love the music selection for that trailer.

The cool part about it is that you can gather supplies, craft weapons, craft armor, customize your character and armor (unlike Facepunch Studios’ Rust) and team up with other players, or just run around and attempt to kill anyone on sight.

The game takes place in a persistent world, so whatever happens stays. And whatever befalls you is permanent.

One of the best selling points of the game is the fact that it’s a buy-once-to-own title. Shattered Skies doesn’t have any of that cash shop nonsense or microtransactions or in-app purchases.

According to the developers they wanted to keep it simple…

“No microtransactions, no season passes, no paid DLCs. We want you to enjoy the game without feeling pressured to buy boosts or items to stay competitive. All items, guns, cosmetics and character advancement in Shattered Skies is earned through good old fashioned gameplay. “

I’m genuinely shocked that the game has this kind of monetary setup… shocked. Really.

It’s rare to find an online game these days where you buy it once and call it a day. Everything requires persistent payments like you’re paying on a gosh darn mortgage.

In addition to the PvP and PvE and looting and all that other great jazz, the game also sports non-combat zones so you can head to your own hideout and decorate it as you see fit, maybe even chillout with a friends.

You can pick up a copy of Shattered Skies right now from over on the Steam store, alternatively you can hit up the official website to learn more about the game.
