Starbound Graduates From Early Access On July 22nd

It’s been three years since Starbound entered into Early Access and gamers have been eagerly hanging onto each and every single morsel of information that has been made available for the game after every single update for the past several years. Well, now the time has finally come and Starbound will be releasing in full, starting July 22nd.

Chucklefish Studios made a post over on their official website, announcing that they will pump the game out before July wraps up.

The developers wrote on the site…

“After ~5 years, the game we set out to make finally exists, and to say that it all feels a bit surreal would be a massive understatement!

“While Starbound will be finished in two weeks, this isn’t the end. We will continue to update and support Starbound for as long as we can.”

Even when the game first entered into Early Access, it was easy to dump several hundred hours into it even when there was barely anything to do. It’s a really fun, really awesome game. I love that it has a dedicated modding community and hopefully they’ll stick around when the game hits version 1.0.

So what is Starbound? It’s a space exploration RPG. You craft your story through the journeys you decide to go on. There is a general storyline to follow, but most of your character development and interactions will be based on your own choosing, not unlike No Man’s Sky.

The game allows you upgrade your ship, add a sparkling crew, craft weapons, items, vehicles, armor and even become a space cook. You can trade, barter take on side-quests and explore procedurally generated dungeons across procedurally generated planets.

There’s a multiplayer mode, character customization and even boss battles. It’s an impressive game with an easy-to-learn play-style. I had a lot of fun playing it a few years back.

You can grab a digital copy of Starbound right now while it’s still in Early Access for $14.99 from the Steam store, or you can visit the official website to learn more.
