Windscape, Legend Of Zelda-like Game Coming Soon To Steam Early Access

Publisher Headup Games and developer Magic Sandbox plan to get their Legend of Zelda-like game, Windscape, onto Steam sometime soon. The project’s release date notes that it will be “coming soon” to PC via Steam Early Access.

According to the developers and the game’s description, many classic titles such as Golden Axe, The Legend of Zelda and Secret of Mana, all played an important role in shaping this project. Like the three games, Windscape will feature exploration and hand-crafted environments that aren’t randomly generated, quests revolving around NPCs and exploration.

In addition to the environment not being randomly generated, the developers explained that randomly generated environemnts would interfere with the story and immersion of the game. However, they’re still looking for and seeking player feedback on the shaping of Windscape’s world. Having played a load of randomly generated games myself, I can see where story elements can get lost, and why the devs want to tell the story of Windscape through a hand-crafted world made from scratch.

But enough on the story and the world of the game. You can read the official description that depicts what the Windscape is about, and what players will encounter along the way in the upcoming adventure game:

“In Windscape you play as a young girl living on your parents’ farm, set in a lovely world made up of floating islands in the sky. As you discover the world you learn that something has gone terribly wrong – islands are breaking apart and falling from the sky! It’s up to you to discover the evil that is threatening the universe of Windscape.”

The game is going to be just like Golden Axe and the Legend of Zelda in the sense of exploring sectors, while coupling the two game’s combat system, except it will all be in first-person. This also sparks up a system that won’t be a stat-driven RPG, or a terraforming sandbox game like Minecraft, but a world that holds locations to discover with a story.

I’m not sure how the complete product will turn out, or if it will be something to remember on release, but at least it seems like the devs have an ideal on where they want to take the game and what kind of content they’re looking to implement into it.

With that said, you can check out its Alpha trailer, although it has a newer trailer that hasn’t been posted up on YouTube yet. So for now, you will have to settle with the video below.
