Oniken: Unstoppable Edition Lands On GOG, Set To Hit Steam Soon

Do you like old-classic pixel games that are really hard? Are games like Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden, Shatterhand and Power Blade something you still yearn for? If so, indie devs JoyMasher recently updated their game Oniken, and published it as Oniken: Unstoppable Edition to reflect those games even more. Oniken: UE is also set to hit Steam, and is currently running a special deal that drops its price down to $1.49 on GOG.

Those who are big fans of lone ninjas taking on trash mobs of enemies like Joe Musashi from Shinobi and Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, might find Oniken: Unstoppable Edition interesting.

The indie team, JoyMasher, are best known for their work Odallus: The Dark Call, which holds the same premise of one vigilant warrior taking on hordes of enemies. The only difference is with Oniken and Odallus is that the former plays out like a classic arcade game, while the latter is more like Super Castlevania 4.

Moreover, the Unstoppable Edition of Oniken fixes some old problems and brings along some new improvements to the ninja action 2D game.

Although the game has just received some updates and tweaks the same fast-paced mechanics are still intact. This means that giant robots getting cut into pieces, along with the typical explosions are still prevalent.

If the indie action game sounds fun to you, a nice video trailer shows all of this single-handed ninja duty below, courtesy of JoyMasher‘s YouTube channel.

As seen above, the game revolves around a ninja taking out evil robotic military units. And like in any other game with ninjas and the military, the two don’t go hand-in-hand in Oniken. This is relayed through various cut-scenes and side-scrolling story action that is initiated before/after boss fights, and challenging gameplay.

Oniken: Unstoppable Edition is set to hit Steam sometime soon, where-as the original version, Oniken, is on Steam for $4.99.

As for GOG, the site currently holds the newer updated Oniken: Unstoppable Edition for $1.49, which usually runs for $4.99. For more information on the game and the devs, you can head on over to joymasher.com.
