Some new gameplay footage was released for Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 during this year’s GamesCom event in Cologne, Germany. The video highlights some of the multiple ways in which a mission can be completed, including using a stealthy approach, a sniper’s approach and a Rambo approach.
YouTuber MathChief posted up the 17 minute gameplay video highlighting the different mechanics and options for the game that players will be able to exploit in missions, and you can check it out below.
When you start at the safe house, you can choose your loadout before you go onto the mission. You can choose your primary weapon, your secondary weapon and your items. From there, players have the option of choosing their mission using the laptop. It’s very similar to Hitman 2, where you setup all your gear before going on a mission.
In Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 it’s pretty cool because you actually get to drive to your destination after choosing a mission. You’ll manually have to get to that location.
As showcased in the video, there will be patrols and security forces to watch out for while you undertake the mission.
The setup and mission execution reminds me of what Assassin’s Creed should have been. You can essentially use the drone to scout out the surroundings and find out where your target is and what sort of enemy forces will be located within the mission area.
The game encourages players to pick and choose what approach best suits their play-style, allowing them to move around and scale the environment for the most opportune kill shots.
Players can also climb around certain areas to scale up or down through various areas, with the game taking on more of that Assassin’s Creed aura that I mentioned earlier. Only, this is how Assassin’s Creed should have been.
There’s a lot of gun porn in the game… the mechanical structure of the rifles, the switching of bullet types before shooting, the reloading, the zooming, all of it is designed to give lovers of guns a hard-on…or girl-wood.
A second playthrough of the same mission showcased a more Splinter Cell-esque play-style where the player sneaks into the base to take out the enemy instead of sniping the target from hundreds of meters away. Interacting with the environment can also offer up advantageous moments in a mission, such as taking hold of a patrolling guard and extracting vital intel in order to complete the mission.
CI Games’ Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 looks surprisingly polished. Usually these kind of games fly well under the radar, but given that games these days now are made or broken based on what players see, the quality gameplay footage showcased at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany could spell a good omen for the developers and their release of the first-person stealth game.
Of course, if you hate being cautious, if you hate being silent, if you hate being a momma’s boy, you can go in guns-a-blazin’ even though that’s not really how the game is designed. You can use tactical Rambo methods to be both stealthy and explosive.
The ability to loot bodies, gather supplies and unlock new gear is also pretty cool, which should enable for multiple playthrough sessions and a healthy dose of replayability.
