StarCraft HD Rumors Promise News In September

Rumors have been swirling about an HD remastered edition of StarCraft due to be unveiled in September. The rumors about an HD re-release of the original sci-fi RTS title from Blizzard have sprouted up from a Korean news site.

According to Blues, online website iNews24 claims they have it on good word from multiple sources that an HD version of the sci-fi RTS called StarCraft HD will be released before the year is out.

A translation of the important part of the story reads…

“Today, multiple sources with knowledge of Blizzard internal plans said that Blizzard will reveal StarCraft HD to the public this September. The StarCraft HD remastered version will retain the original gameplay and is said to have improved graphics resolution and user interface (UI).”

There’s no confirmation about the news regarding an HD remastered edition of StarCraft from Blizzard Entertainment. The rumor only went live on August 5th, so Blizzard may not have had time to run rumor control on news coming out of South Korea.

According to some sources the iNews24 outlet is a pretty reliable news organization (but then again, according to Wikipedia Gawker is a pretty reliable news organization when it fits their ideological bias). There’s no telling if what they’re reporting is actually true, but if it is then RTS fans will certainly have something to look forward to this fall.

An HD remaster of one of the great three franchises under the Blizzard banner seems long overdue. The original game came out back in 1998, where the competition in the RTS genre was very different than it is today. Back then Command & Conquer commanded the marketplace and the sales charts, but Blizzard’s StarCraft came in like a zerg horde and made the industry take notice.

After nearly 20 years I think an HD remaster is very appropriate, unlike some of the other HD remasters of games that only came out just last gen.

We’ll see if the news turns out to be true when September rolls around.
