Fallout 4, Skyrim Mods For PS4 Absent Due To Sony, Says Bethesda

Curious why you still can’t play some of your favorite mods for Fallout 4 and the upcoming Skyrim on the PS4? Well, according to Bethesda it’s because of Sony.

Over on the Bethesda official website they have a short and sweet blog post explaining why PS4 gamers have been left blinded and left in the dark when it comes to user mods for Fallout 4 and the upcoming enhanced edition of Skyrim, stating…

“Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

“Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience.”

So basically, like a jock blocking a nerd in high school from taking the cool girl out to the prom, Sony has blocked Bethesda from providing gamers with mods.

Now is it possible that Bethesda could circumvent the cockblock with a makeshift circumcision? Unlikely. If this were PC and Valve pulled a stunt like this with Steam Workshop then Bethesda could simply offer mods from a number of other places, like NexusMods or even their own portal. But in this case, there is no other alternative for getting mods onto the PS4 save through Sony.

So what does this mean for PS4 gamers? It means no mods for you!

Game Rant previously reported that the reason for the hang-up with mods was because the PS4 had performance, frame-rate and memory issues with the mods running on the system. Worse yet is that Sony supposedly had a 900MB memory cap on the mods, which is small enough to prevent most gamers from even being able to run basic texture overhaul mods or model add-ons that give gamers lots more options when it comes to locations, armor, weapons and customization.

Xbox One owners will continue to get to experience mods and continue to receive support for the mods on Fallout 4 and Skyrim. This is definitely something that gives Microsoft the leg up over the competition.
