Little Nightmares EXG 2016 Video Reveals Spring, 2017 Release

During this year’s EGX in Birmingham, England, Tarsier Studio’s Little Nightmares was on display. It’s a cool looking 3D platformer due out for release for home consoles and PC in spring, 2017. The game sees players taking on the role of a miniature little girl in a raincoat named “Six”.

The newest gameplay footage for the title clocks in at seven minutes, featuring platforming and puzzle solving. You can check out the video below courtesy of LPG.

The video covers a lot of the same content we’ve seen before, but the commentators explain a bit more about the story, explaining that Six is starving and alone on a giant floating isle called The Maw.

They explain in the video that it’s not a terribly long game, but I’m guessing it’s designed to be short and sweet, similar to games like Inside or Limbo or The Turing Test.

The Unreal Engine 4-powered game looks like it could be one of those titles that’s good to play over the weekend, and it reminds me a little bit of Unravel.

Part of the appeal of Little Nightmares is that many of the game’s puzzles are designed around physics. Pulling and pushing objects to use them as platforms is possible, along with performing some quirky actions to overcome some of the obstacles presented to players.

Story-wise the game is still a bit of a mystery and I imagine Tarsier wants to keep a lot of the core aspects of the game under wraps leading up to its release, not unlike PlayDead trying to keep a tight lid on Inside leading up to its release. Sometimes over-exposure will diminish interest in the game and by the time it releases there’s not much to discover… a little like No Man’s Sky.

As mentioned at the top of the article, the game is due for release in spring in 2017 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
