Mai Shiranui In Dead Or Alive 5 Gets A Lot Of Positive Feedback
(Last Updated On: September 19, 2016)

During the release of King of Fighters XIV for the PlayStation 4 in August, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja teamed up with SNK Playmore to allow for crossover content to appear in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round. What was the content? None other than the queen of fighting game sex appeal, Mai Shiranui.

Mai launched as DLC with two costumes in Dead or Alive 5 on September 12th. The DLC is not as cheap as you may have been expecting, costing $7.99 just for the character and two colors for her flagrantly skimpy costume. Speaking of costumes, there’s a separate pack containing just a series of costumes for Mai. You can either get the pack individually or in a bundle for $16. The Debut Costumes alone will run you $9.99, it features five outfits for Mai to don, including a Santa’s Helper costume, a Cheerleader outfit, a Nurse, a Maid and a Sexy Bunny.

Koei, not content milking gamers with a character DLC and a costume DLC pack, they also released another King of Fighters mash-up set, featuring Mai, Mai’s Debut Costumes, and six outfits for the Dead or Alive 5 cast based on King of Fighters characters, this includes Kasumi and Kokoro as Kasumi Todoh; Ayane and Hitomi as Yuri Sakazaki; and Marie Rose and Honoka as Hinako Shijo. I really would have thought that they would have had a Blue Mary or Mature outfit for Helena… I mean, it’s ripe for the milking!

Anyway, despite the ridiculously high prices for the character and DLC (the mash-up pack costs $27) gamers can’t deny the charms of the kunoichi succubus. The average customer rating for the Mai DLC is very positive.

The majority of gamers aren’t too fond of the price but can’t help but fall in love with Mai from the venerable KoF franchise. A majority of the reviews are in Japanese, but even then, the gist of the content is as follows from users like Labmem004, who wrote…

“嚯嚯嚯,新角色特别好用,招数很容易按出来,但是 舞 在 DOA 里好像还没有在 拳皇 里“有料”啊╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I am a simple man. I see the boobs, I give a thumbs-up gesture. ( ̄▽ ̄)b”

CantFindANick was disappointed in the limited costumes but was glad that the PC version has mods, writing…

This character is good, really. She’s cool moves (fire effects :D) but they are also fast and powerful. It’s definitely worth your money.  Only con is that she only has two costumes… but hey! We are on PC! We have mods! (iukwim)

Others called her Momiji 2.0. Some gave the DLC a thumbs down saying that it’s only worth it if you have $10 to waste, while the majority simply couldn’t deny the charms of Mai… even if she only has two base costumes/colors. If you need to see Mai in action, YouTuber HotGaming has a 20 minute video featuring Mai in all her different costumes that you can check out below.

If you want to spruce up your version of Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, you can get a hold of Mai right now. For the PC version of the game I’m sure a bevy of mods will be available soon enough. You can learn more by hitting up the Steam store page or by picking up a copy of the DLC from the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store.

Cool, now with all the crossovers going on maybe we can get actual crossover fighting game. We ain’t going to see Tekken X Street Fighter for a while & we may never get Capcom vs SNK 3 so it’d be nice to see another

  • Since SNK has gone on record saying they’re aiming for an aesthetically realistic 3D KOF game, I reckon they should start by taking a look at DOA’s models, especially for lighting, skin textures and faces. Some of the KOF girls (and even the guys) could use some work in future installments.

I’m probably the only person who doesn’t want to play DOA5 just for a new outfit or a new character once in a while.

Would have been nice if the two costumes that come with her weren’t nearly identical. Red and black? That’s it? At least they could’ve included the bunny outfit as an alternative.

  • She’s obviously a hottie, and being a famous female icon from SNK/KOF means that she’s got some large assets as well.

The other thing thats positive and promising is the fact that SNK has allowed some of their female characters to appear and be represented in DOA. Personally I think that’s a winner of a situation and allows both companies to benefit.

Will we see Capcom allow the likes of Cammy, Chun Li and Juri Han to be represented in DOA in the future? Hell no. Don’t wanna upset their FGC E-Sports dudebros and their SJW feminist crowd they’re pandering to.

chun li on doa would be a real feat
doa already handles the life and hometown, but it could also appreciate the thighs too

      • Hometown could use some renovation in DOA, though. Not bad… but you know.

      • The thighs would definitely be very toned down compared to SF5 standards because DOA uses a realistic modelling style as opposed to SF4/SF5’s ridiculously oversized anatomy parts… but any Chun Li thigh is nice thigh of course

She fits right into DoA, would like her in DOAX as well ;3
