NBA 2K17 Trailer Features Michael B. Jordan In New Career Mode

The MyCareer mode for NBA 2K17 has been overhauled after 2K let movie director Spike Lee take the helm in last year’s NBA 2K16. The trailer is snappy and well put together, showing what looks like a lighthearted journey through the NBA with two friends going from the college courts to the national league.

The trailer is only a minute and a half long and sports some jazzy funk set against a backdrop of short clips taken from NBA 2K17’s MyCareer mode. We get to see parts of the create-a-player process and a few cinematics involving rising Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan. You can check out the trailer below.

The non-NBA players look kind of derpy, like they were given the scraps of a PS2 renderer or something.

Nevertheless, the character creation process looks deep. We get to see how the player-character can be short, tall, white, black, Hispanic, Asian or anything else in between. Players will be able to use the Visual Concept face sculptor to define every inch of their player from their brow to the tip of their chin.

It’s not all about looks, though. The MyCareer will also put play-style and career choices in the laps of players, challenging them to make the right decisions on their climb to the top. Along the way players will get good with their partner Michael B. Jordan and eventually become a dynamic duo on the court known as “Orange Juice”. How that relationship develops from there is entirely up to the players.

The light hints about possible tension between Jordan and the player-character peppered into the trailer like the scattered sprinkling of seasoning salt on a salad made for a good bit of intrigue to round out an otherwise entertaining promo piece.
