Vampyr’s Combat System Will Feature RPG Elements And Choices

Focus Home Interactive recently dropped some new information regarding Vampyr’s combat system, which will feature RPG elements and choices throughout. The game is currently in development by Dontnod Entertainment, and is set to come out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One next year.

Vampyr is a new action RPG that seeks to tell a story of a WW1 veteran who settles down to become a doctor in 1918. According to the new post on the PlayStation.blog, we learn that during the time of the Spanish Flu that seeps into London, Doctor Jonathan Reid (the WW1 veteran) faces an affliction that has him split between helping lives and taking lives away.

The blog explains that player will be armed with an array of conventional weapons that range from melee objects to other weapon types. Upon dodging and attacking, Reid’s Blood Gauge meter will fill up, this will allow him to use special vampire attacks and moves.

In addition to his attacks, players will be able to unleash spikes that can impale targets, or use bloodsucking moves that can drain individuals up close or from afar. If these abilities are used too much Reid will eventually give way to his full vampire side that will overtake his human form.

Players will be able to balance out his two forms with a “non-linear” skill tree that unlocks through experience gained. These skills are said to provide players room to build up their own play-style and archetypes. Additionally, skills that keep targets at bay will be present along with abilities that can crowd control, which the two skills are occupied by moves that can wipe areas out quickly.

Vampyr is said to offer different routes throughout the game instead of just killing people or fighting. Alternate paths will be present in the form of skipping criminals or daily pedestrians, which if you want you can make the decision as to whether you want to kill anyone in sight, just don’t drink too much blood or you will start to turn into a vampire.

The towns population will be affected by your killing, and can lead to other events if you are not careful. This sparks up the dichotomy of investigating carefully and brute force action, however there is a middle ground in the two paths that players will be able to explore depending on how they approach events.

Vampyr is set to hit PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2017. For more information on this game, you can head on over to the PlayStation.blog.
