Yooka-Laylee EGX 2016 Gameplay Video Covers Transformation Abilities

25 whole minutes worth of gameplay was revealed at this year’s EGX 2016 event in London, England for the Kickstarted platformer, Yooka-Laylee. The event saw the developers from Playtonic Games talking up the features, the optimizations and the platforming.

The game is scheduled to release on current generation platforms along with Linux, PC and Mac. You can check out the gameplay footage below courtesy of LinkGamer2207.

According to the video, the current build is actually several months old. They’ve added more animations and more content to the game. They also explain that they’ve kept the collectibles fairly low so that players aren’t overwhelmed with too much choice, but they do have enough variance in collectibles to grant players the options necessary to expand their moves and expand the game world.

We learn that the pages that players collect throughout the game world can be used to further expand the world for additional exploration.

One of the features they talk about in the 25 minute video is the transformation ability where you can turn into different species in order to interact with other characters in the game. In the video above the one demonstration sees Yooka having to talk to a plant, but before doing so the duo has to transform into a plant.

We also see a neat little mini-game segment where the tower is being traversed and scaled and Yooka and Laylee take a quick mine cart ride where reflexes and timing are the order of the day. There are also plenty of nods to Banjo-Kazooie, hearkening back to the days of Rare’s glory days during the N64 era.

The colorful platformer looks like it could be one of the best games to come out of the Kickstarter bubble, and it’s needless to say but Kickstarter really needs a victory after having a string of high-profile failures and scams rock the integrity of the platform.

Yooka-Laylee is due for release in 2017 on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, Mac and Linux. For more information on the game be sure to pay a kind visit to the official website.
