2K Games had announced back in early September that they would be releasing a VR compilation title called Carnival Games VR for the HTC Vive and the PlayStation VR. Well, they kept to their word and have annoucned that Carnival Games VR is available right now for the Vive on Steam and for the PSVR on PS4. Sadly, you Oculus Rift owners will have to wait a while before it becomes available on the Oculus Store.
Just like the old Carnival Games title they made for the Wii many years ago, 2K’s new Carnival Games VR features 12 different games for people to partake in, including basketball mini-games, a shooting gallery, and even a virtual climbing sim.
Each of the games make use of the virtual wands for the Vive and the PlayStation Move. You can see how the games can be played with the launch trailer below, which covers some of the mini-games included in the compilation.
The trailer focuses on some of the activities, like going through the haunted house and shooting ghosts with akimbo pistols, John Woo style.
We also see the ring toss in action, which includes throwing the virtual rings onto the targets. The official website reveals a few more games for players to partake in, including a funnel cake stacker, and a fast-pitch mini-game.
It’s weird that they promote Carnival Games VR in the launch trailer as some sort of party game affair, but the reality is that only one person at a time can play. It’s kind of a like you’re sitting there watching other people play and then have to go through the process of switching headsets around when it’s your turn.
I don’t really see the appeal of that as a party game just because of how cumbersome it is, but hey… to each their own.
Carnival Games VR is available right now for $19.99 on Steam, the 2K Store and the PlayStation Store. You’ll be able to pick up a copy from the Oculus Store starting December 6th.
