Half-Life 2, Portal Now Available On Xbox One Via Backwards Compatibility

The PS4 may be able to access Red Dead Redemption soon via PlayStation Now, but Xbox One gamers can currently play Half-Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2 via backwards compatibility.

GamingBolt picked up the news from Major Nelson, who revealed that some of Valve’s classics are now available for digital and physical playability on the Xbox One through the backwards compatibility of Xbox 360 games.

The Orange Box collection includes the three aforementioned titles, which should be playable whether you have the disc version or you have the digital version jammed onto your Xbox Live profile.

I wasn’t expecting to see Valve’s trilogy of games from the Orange Box made available for backwards compatibility, but Microsoft is doing a darn fine job of expanding on the Xbox One’s library, even if the more highly anticipated games mostly consists of Xbox 360 titles.

According to GamingBolt, Valve’s popular titles aren’t the only ones that have recently been made available for backwards compatibility, there’s also Galaga Legions and Hello Games’ Joe Danger 2: The MovieNo Man’s Sky and then dropped off the face of the internet.

Microsoft is definitely winning points where-as Sony seems to be moving backwards out of this generation. The PlayStation Now service is a pure and simple rip-off, especially having to pay for games you already own and not even being able to own the games you rent from PlayStation Now. They also had an opportunity for real backwards compatibility but decided to fleece fans instead.

If you want to check out the games available on Xbox One that have been made backwards compatible you can visit the official Xbox website. If you already own the Orange Box just slap the disc in and load it into the Xbox One like Bill Clinton put his load into the White House interns.
