PS4 owners have been on the receiving end of some unsavory news in recent time when Bethesda had to reluctantly inform the PlayStation gaming community that Skyrim and Fallout 4 on PS4 would be devoid of mod support due to Sony. Well, after some more negotiating, it appears as if Bethesda has managed to allow mod support to arrive on the PS4.
In a post made on the official Bethesda website, the company announced that Skyrim on the PS4 Pro will support native 4K. I imagine they’ll have to scale a lot of the assets down to run the game at 4K. There’s also a likelihood that the game will only run at 30fps given how weak the PS4 Pro’s GPU is.
They also let loose some images of Skyrim running at 4K on the PS4 Pro.
The real news was that mods would be available on Skyrim and Fallout 4 on PS4. They explain…
“Mod support will come to Skyrim first. We and Sony have worked hard to make this possible.
“You will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods, but you will be able to use any assets that come with the game, as most mods do.”
So basically it’s modding for gimps.
No external assets means that no CBBE, no new weapons, no custom structures, no custom buildings, no custom enemies, no new audio, no new companions, and no new custom locations. Essentially, everything that makes modding worthwhile will be prohibited on the PS4.
It’s a little like saying Hillary Clinton can take office in the White House but she’s not allowed to assassinate people with opposing views under a new “Safe Space” act, and Bill Clinton will be prohibited from hanging out by the lady’s bathroom. It’s like… what’s the point of even having a lady’s bathroom if Bill can’t wear his mirrored shoes while standing outside the door?
Anyway, a lot of gamers aren’t happy about Bill being prohibited from standing outside the lady’s lavatory, and they’re just as angry about not being able to use external assets in mods for the PS4 versions of Skyrim and Fallout 4.
In addition to cutting out a bunch of modding opportunities, this also means that the most important and highly downloaded mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim won’t ever make their way onto the PS4… nude mods.
Poor man’s mods will be available for Fallout 4 and Skyrim after the latter game launches on PS4 October 28th.
